This year marks an incredible milestone for all of us at Stark Federal Credit Union, as we celebrate 65 years of serving our members and the communities we proudly call home.
Our story began in 1961 when a group of teachers and administrators from Plain Local Schools wanted something different. They believed people deserved a financial institution that put members before profits, so they came together to create what would become Stark Federal Credit Union. There were no mobile apps, online banking, or debit cards back then. In fact, our first “office” was little more than a shoe box where members could save money, borrow when they needed to, and count on people to be honest and forthright.
Over the past six and a half decades, we’ve grown alongside the communities we serve. From expanding our membership beyond local school employees to opening our doors to entire communities, every step has been driven by one goal: helping more people achieve financial success. Most recently, in 2025, we expanded our field of membership to include Portage, Summit, Tuscarawas, and Wayne Counties, allowing even more individuals and families to become part of the Stark Federal Credit Union family.
While we’ve embraced new technology, modern banking services, and continued growth, we’ve never lost sight of what made us successful in the first place, which is putting people first. Every loan we approve, every account we open, and every conversation we have is guided by our commitment to treating members like neighbors, not numbers.
We’re also proud to give back to the communities that have supported us for 65 years. Whether it’s partnering with our local schools or supporting organizations like the American Cancer Society, Humane Society of Stark County, Stark County Hunger Task Force, Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, and The Workshops, Inc., we believe a stronger community benefits everyone.
As we celebrate our 65th anniversary, we’re taking time to reflect on how far we’ve come while looking ahead with excitement. Our history has shaped who we are, but our future is even brighter. We’ll continue investing in new services, expanding opportunities for membership, and delivering the exceptional, hometown service our members have come to expect.
To everyone who has been part of our journey over the past 65 years, we wholeheartedly thank you. Whether you’ve been a member for decades or just recently joined us, we’re honored to be your trusted financial partner. Here’s to celebrating our past, serving our present, and building an even stronger future together.
